Piracy – Best Management Practice West Africa

We would like to introduce our members new publication BMP West Africa (Best Management Practices to Deter Piracy and Enhance Maritime Security off the Coast of West Africa including the Gulf of Guinea) has now been published.

BMP West Africa, published in cooperation with the International Group of P&I Clubs, covers Deter and Enhance Maritime Security off the Coast of West Africa including the Gulf of Guinea. The following things are enhanced but not limited to;

 

Threat: Attacks have been reported over 200Nm from the coast

Risk assessment: Secure Anchorage Areas (SAA), Security Escort Vessels (SEV) and or Vessel Protection Detachments (VPDs).

Planning: Vessels are most vulnerable when stopped in the water, drifting, at anchor or carrying out STS transfer, Single Buoy mooring (SBM) operations or slowing down for pilot transfer.

Ship Protection Measures: Citadel Management, Ship-to-Ship operations,

Security Measures: Floating (Production) Storage & Offloading (F(P)SO)

Reporting: All ships using the VRA are strongly encouraged to inform MDAT-GoG
