About Japan P&I Club

History

1950

The Ship Owners’ Mutual Insurance Association Law was passed by the National Diet of Japan on 11 May. The Club was established on 2 October in accordance with this law and offices were opened in Kobe and Tokyo.

1968

The principal office was moved from Kobe to Tokyo.

1973

Cover for non Japanese flag vessels started.

1974

Fukuoka office was opened.

1975

The principal office moved to 2-1-10, Nihonbashi, Chuo-ku, Tokyo.
Matsuyama office was opened.

1976

The Club became a member of the International Group of P&I Clubs.

1983

Cover for freight, demurrage & defence was started.

1985

Imabari and London Liaison offices were opened.

1987

The principal office moved to its present location in the Club’s own building at 2-15-14, Nihonbashi-Ningyocho, Chuo-ku, Tokyo.

1989

The Club became a member of the Pooling Agreement of the International Group of P&I Clubs.

1997

Matsuyama office was closed.

2000

50th Anniversary.

2002

Fukuoka and Imabari offices changed the titles to Fukuoka Branch and Imabari Branch.

2009

Japan P&I Club (UK) Service Ltd., was opened in London.

2013

Singapore Branch was opened.

2020

70th Anniversary.

2023

The principal office moved to 2-23-1, Akasaka, Minato-ku, Tokyo
