Application of WHO COMMUNICABLE DISEASE EXCLUSION CLAUSE to monkeypox

27 July 2022 No.22-009

The World Health Organization (WHO) certified monkeypox as constituting a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC) on 23 July 2022.

As a result, please be advised that monkeypox-related claims occurring on or after 23 July 2022 will not be covered as per “WHO COMMUNICABLE DISEASE EXCLUSION CLAUSE”. On the other hand, this exclusion clause is not applicable to mutual entries and Special Cover for Freight, Demurrage and Defence (FD&D), therefore, these claims remain covered for mutual entries and FD&D entries.
