Japan P&I Club Speaks at SCMA Seminar in Bangkok on War Risks

On 6 October 2026, the Singapore Chamber of Maritime Arbitration (SCMA), in collaboration with JTJB Singapore and JTJB International Lawyers in Thailand, held its annual seminar in Bangkok, Thailand. Ms. Wu Yixuan, Senior Claims Executive at Japan P&I Club’s Singapore Branch, was invited to speak on the seminar’s third panel, titled “War Risks for Marine and Cargo Insurance.” The event brought together approximately 100 industry representatives across the shipowners, charterers, logistics, marine insurance and maritime service provider sectors.
Moderated by Mr. John Sze, Managing Partner of JTJB Singapore, the panel also featured co-panelists Mr. N. Vasudevan, Vice President of Precious Shipping Public Company Limited, and Mr. Juthathawat Pengsri, Chairman of the Marine Insurance and Logistics Committee at the Thai General Insurance Association.
During the session, Ms. Wu delivered a concise presentation on the Japan P&I Club’s P&I War Risks Clause for Owners’ Mutual P&I Insurance and the P&I War Risks Clause Special Cover for Charterers’ Liability Insurance. She shared the Club’s observations on key current developments surrounding war risks and highlighted the Club's role in assisting Members with relevant charterparty disputes via FD&D coverage. The discussion also addressed recommended best practices for Owners’ documented risk assessments, reinforcing themes from earlier sessions on force majeure and arbitration. The seminar was warmly received and sparked active audience participation.
The Club thanks our hosts, SCMA and JTJB, for organising this timely forum, as well as the Thai Shipowners’ Association, Thailand Arbitration Center, Thai General Insurance Association, and Bangkok Shipowners and Agents Association for their warm welcome and frontline insights.
The Japan P&I Club remains dedicated to delivering timely expertise to support our Members' safe operations amid a volatile geopolitical landscape.
