Mr. Mark van Velden

Japan P&I Club is pleased to announce that, as part of a strategic initiative to restructure our FD&D (Freight, Demurrage and Defense) services and address the increasingly diverse and sophisticated needs of our Members, we have appointed Mr. Mark van Velden as a dedicated staff member, effective 1 April 2026. This appointment is designed to further enhance and professionalise our ability to support Members facing complex legal challenges overseas. Mr. Velden will be based in South Africa.

Mr. Velden brings a wealth of experience to the Club, having previously served at P&I Clubs in London and as a long-standing partner at one of Africa’s leading law firms. He is widely recognised internationally as a pre-eminent expert in maritime law, particularly in matters concerning Bills of Lading and Charterparties, and enjoys an excellent reputation for excellence and reliability among both industry peers and clients.

By integrating such global expertise into our team, Japan P&I Club will provide more prompt, pragmatic, and expert support for casualties, contractual disputes, and other legal hurdles encountered abroad. This move significantly increases the value proposition of our FD&D insurance and strengthens our commitment to supporting the international business operations of our Members.
