Nigeria-Tax Laws on international shipping companies

13 June 2023 No.1227

We have received the information below from our local correspondent in Nigeria, Femi Atoyebi & Co..

Tax laws in Nigeria were amended several years ago and the authorities can impose taxes to international shipping companies against income derived from Nigeria. The Federal Inland Revenue Service of Nigeria is demanding that shipowners or operators pay taxes for their ‘business activities’ (cargo carriage) in Nigeria. Recently, our local correspondent has handled several cases of this matter.

If your vessels call at Nigerian ports, please be cautious to this point.
