Pre-Employment Medical Examination for Filipino Crew -Renewal of Japan P&I PEME Package –
In October 2001 we formulated the comprehensive scheme of Pre-Employment Medical Examination (PEME) for Filipino seafarers and recommended the members to use the scheme in order to reduce their crew illness claims due to the pre-existing condition of the seafarer by way of preforming extra tests in addition to the minimum standard.
In order to encourage more members to use the program, we hereby introduce to the members about our new Japan P&I PEME Package which includes more effective tests and unified price of US$115.00. The details of the tests, price and clinics are as per attached.
If you have any questions, please contact our Group I of Claims Department (Tel:+81-3-3362-7219, e-mail: jpi.claim_crew@piclub.or.jp) or our Underwriting people.
Procedures and other consideration for using Japan P&I PEME Package
(1) Members and their manning agents should discuss the use of the Japan PEME Package, and the inclusion of the additional tests.
(2) If the members refer the seaman to clinics in the attached list for the Package, the referral slip should be completed and accompany the applicant, whereupon the agreed terms will be prevail.
(3) The PEME requires 24 hours turnaround time. Therefore, it is necessary to arrange PEME well before the scheduled date of seaman’s departure.
(4) The manning agent or the members pay the clinic’s bill.
(5) As guideline for determination of seaman’s physical fitness for sea duty, the clinic basically refer to the Administrative Order No.2013-0006 issued by the Department of Health of the Philippines and the International Labor Organization / International Maritime Organization (ILO/IMO) Guidelines on the Medical Examination of Seafarers. The Japan P&I Club comprehensive standard for participating members is given in detail in the Designated Medical Examiners Handbook issued by the club to each clinic.
