15 January 2014 No.657

Members are referred to the previous Japan P&I News No.655 dated 7 January 2014. We have received further information together with the attached article of the Singapore Strait Times dated 13 January 2014from SPICA Services about the ban on the export of raw minerals from Indonesia.

According to SPICA Services and news report, while the Indonesia Government has implemented the proposed ban on the export of raw minerals from 12 January 2014, the Government passed the regulation to allow some miners to export copper, manganese, lead, zinc and iron ore concentrate until 2017. However, nickel ore and bauxite exports would still be banned.

The above regulation to ease the ban’s impact has yet to be announced officially by the Indonesian Government. As there is still some uncertainty over the introduction of the regulation, members are requested to check the latest information with the local agents, etc.
