Lebanon-Boycott Office of Israel Certificate Required

22 November 2013 No.650

Ships calling at ports in Israel are generally prohibited from trading with Arab ports and may be blacklisted in Lebanon.  Recently, Lebanese authorities announced that they would not allow ships to call at Lebanese ports unless the ship has on board a certificate stating that it is not on the blacklist.

The certificate is issued by the Boycott Office of Israel at the Ministry of Economy and Commerce.  Ships which do not have a certificate on board or are confirmed on the certificate to have been blacklisted are prohibited from calling at Lebanese ports.  The certificate usually can be obtained within 2 working days of an application. Members intending to trade into Lebanese ports should obtain the certificate well in advance of the ship’s call. The law firm Baroudi & Associates can assist Members in obtaining the certificate at a charge of USD 400.
